Tottenham Hotspur have been going through a tough time of late, and few players have really come of recent games with much credit.

Of course, Harry Kane continues to shine, but even Son Heung-min’s form dipped before picking up a hamstring injury earlier this month.

Jose Mourinho is under huge pressure after the 3-0 Europa League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb, and Spurs fans haven’t had all that much to shout about.

However, Lucas Moura has arguably been Tottenham’s most reliable player of late, turning in some superb performances for Mourinho.

On Sunday, Moura was outstanding in the 2-0 win over Aston Villa, setting up Carlos Vinicius to score the opener with some unselfish and incisive approach play.

The 28-year-old hasn’t always impacted games as he is now, but he is thriving in a central role, playing as a number 10 either in a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-4-2 diamond.

Back in 2018, Moura was unhappy at his role under Mauricio Pochettino according to the Mail, feeling that he would be better as a central attacking player rather than shoved out wide despite claiming to be happy on the flanks under Mourinho last season.

Moura had a run as a striker, but it’s as a number 10 where Moura is doing his best work, using his pace and dribbling ability to drive at the heart of defences.

Mourinho is giving Moura that run as a number 10, and it’s paying off; six key passes, two assists and eight successful dribbles in the last two games show the impact he is having, and Mourinho recently hailed Moura as ‘amazing’.

Moura has to be happy with his position and performances right now, and Mourinho does deserve credit for getting the best out of the Brazilian.
