Moura joined Spurs in January, but is yet to justify his £25million transfer fee.
Lucas Moura has identified where he needs to improve in an interview with Tottenham Hotspur’s official website after a frustrating few months with the north Londoners.
The 25-year-old was lured to Spurs by Mauricio Pochettino from Paris Saint-Germain back in January for £25million (Sky Sports), but failed to break into the side’s starting line up.
The Brazil international managed only two Premier League starts during the second half of the 2017-18 campaign, with the likes of Son Heung-min, Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen preferred to the speed machine.
He showed his quality in the FA Cup with a goal and three assists in four games for Spurs, but Moura knows where he needs to improve for next season after missing out on Brazil’s World Cup squad.
“I think I can improve my game a lot. The physical side is very different to Brazil and the pace of the game is very different to France. You don’t have so much time to think so I need to decide what I will do with the ball in one second,” Moura said.
“I have learned from training with my team-mates and I enjoy playing with them. The training here is so hard, we work a lot, and it’s so dynamic. When I have the ball, the defenders come and try to take the ball quickly so I need to improve.”
Moura managed just 11 appearances in all competitions for Spurs – culminating in just 457 minutes of football – but could now use his omission from Brazil’s side as a platform to push on at Spurs by focusing on his weaknesses at the club’s Enfield training base.
With Lamela, Son, Eriksen, Dele Alli and Moussa Sissoko all at the World Cup, Moura’s performances in training will be duly noted by Spurs boss Pochettino as the Argentine prepares his side for a 2018-19 title push.
