Kostas Tsimikas scored a winning penalty in Liverpool’s FA Cup final success this evening to ensure the quadruple dream remains alive for Jurgen Klopp’s boys.
Liverpool edged out Chelsea 6-5 during a penalty shootout to win the competition and add to their Carabao Cup triumph earlier in the year.
In doing so, the Reds are now 50 percent way to an unprecedented quadruple, leaving the Premier League and Champions League that Klopp’s side will now focus on again.
Here’s how Lucas Leiva and former Reds boss Rafael Benitez reacted to the victory on Twitter:
Salah and Van Dijk
Liverpool are three points behind Manchester City in the Premier League table with only two games to go.
Pep Guardiola’s men are overwhelming favourites to win that competition and, you could say the same about Real Madrid in Paris two weeks from now.
Well, they wouldn’t be overwhelming favourites, but the Reds lost Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk to injury tonight and no doubt that’ll impact Liverpool’s chances in a massive way.
You couldn’t single out two more influential players during Klopp’s era at Anfield than those two and should they been unavailable, well it’s an enormous blow.
Mane miss
The FA Cup final ended 0-0 in regulation and after an additional half-an-hour of extra time.
Just like the Carabao Cup, this competition was decided via a shootout.
Mason Mount missed straight after Sadio Mane fluffed his effort, allowing Edouard Mendy to save, and Tsimikas, who joined Liverpool in 2020, certainly punished the England international by converting the winner.
