New Everton defender Lucas Digne has been quoted by The Mirror as saying that he has told Barcelona defender Yerry Mina to sign for the Toffees this summer.

Everton had already landed Richarlison in a big-money move from Watford as their first signing of the summer, and then moved to make it two earlier this week.

With Leighton Baines approaching the end of his time with the club, Everton needed another left back, and after prolonged negotiations, landed Frenchman Digne from Barcelona.

The 25-year-old should immediately become Marco Silva’s first-choice left back ahead of the new Premier League season, with Everton receiving the defensive help they so desperately need.

However, Everton may not be done there, and Digne isn’t the only defender the Toffees have been targeting from Barcelona before next Thursday’s transfer deadline.

As reported by Sky Sports, Everton have also been looking to bring in Barca centre back Yerry Mina, though Manchester United’s interest in the 6ft 5in defender has made matters complicated.

Mina, 23, struggled for Barca following a January move from Palmeiras, but three goals in three World Cup games for Colombia has sparked interest in his services – even if he is still raw defensively.

Now, Digne has been quoted by The Mirror as saying that he has told Mina to join Everton too, but doesn’t know what his former teammate will choose to do given the major interest in his signature.

“I hope to see him here but I don’t know really! He’ll choose the best for his career and we’ll see,” said Digne. “I said to him to come but we’ll see. Really I don’t know. He’s a good player and a good guy,” he added.
