The 20-year-old has been nothing short of a revelation with Celtic.

Celtic's Moussa Dembele in action

Lubomir Moravcik has admitted to The Glasgow Evening Times that although Celtic hitman Moussa Dembele is a “fantastic player”, he wonders why he left Paris Saint-Germain.

The 20-year-old has been a revelation in Glasgow following a £500,000 move from Fulham last summer, netting 32 times in all competitions.

The French marksman joined the Championship side at the age of 16 in 2012 after growing pessimistic about his long-term prospects with the Ligue 1 giants following Qatar Sports Investments’ ownership of the club.

Moravcik, who spent four years with Celtic, is naturally delighted to see Dembele wind up at Parkhead, but the 51-year-old is confused as to why he left PSG at such a young age.

“I have watched highlights of his goals on You Tube because he’s scored 32 goals. He has scored great goals, better than mine,” he told The Glasgow Evening Times.

“His goals have been fantastic, in the top corner, everything. He is a fantastic player.

“I don’t know why he left Paris Saint-Germain. When I was 18 I didn’t get into the first team at the club that I was at.

“I had to go to the Third Division, then moved up to the Second Division and so on. Some players can start off in the very top league, but some players must go forward step by step forward.”

By virtue of his excellent first season, Dembele has been linked with a move away, but manager Brendan Rodgers would be delighted to keep him at Celtic for another season at least.
