Newcastle reportedly made an offer for Majer over the weekend.

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is seen during the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Chelsea at St. James Park on May 13, 2018 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Croatian playmaker NK Lokomotiva Lovro Majer has told 24Sata that he is set to leave his current side and join Dinamo Zagreb on a five-year deal – days after a reported offer from Premier League side Newcastle United.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato claimed that Newcastle had tabled an offer of £10million for the 20-year-old, after an excellent 2017-18 campaign that saw him score 14 goals and lay on five assists in Croatia’s top tier.

However, it seems as though Newcastle are set to miss out on Croatia Under-21 international Majer, who has confirmed that he will join Croatian giants Zagreb: “It’s true, I’m coming to Dinamo.”

Majer, who has also reportedly been a target for Scottish champions Celtic and Premier League winners Manchester City, believes that a move to Zagreb is the best option for his prospering career.

The playmaker has a contract with his current club until the summer of 2020, but has stated that it is a childhood dream to move to Zagreb after growing up as a fan of the Croatian side.

Newcastle have been linked with a whole host of players already this summer, but are yet to add to the permanent signing of goalkeeper Martin Dubravka – who joins the club for £4million from Slavia Prague.
