Aston Villa star Trezeguet returned from injury last night as the Egyptian international featured for the club’s U-23 side against rival side Birmingham City.

The attacker has not played since April after suffering a cruciate ligament injury that has kept Trezeguet out of football for most of the season. However, the winger is likely to return to Premier League action this month.

Trezeguet played an hour of football for Villa last night in Premier League 2 where a thrilling match against Birmingham ended 3-3 at Bodymoor Heath, with the winger scoring a penalty in the first half.

Indeed, it was great to see Trezeguet return to the pitch after such a lengthy spell out through injury. And with Leon Bailey out until Christmas with a muscle problem as per the Athletic, the 27-year-old attacker could be called up early by Steven Gerrard.

With the festive season underway, Villa face an onslaught of matches this month, and every available player will likely get a run-out in December. And with Trezeguet now back, the forward could make his Premier League comeback sooner than expected.

Villa have shone since Gerrard’s appointment, with the former Rangers coach winning three of his first four matches in charge of the Midlands side. And some fans on social media think Trezeguet could feature under the new manager now that he is back from injury.
