Louis Moult suggests Rangers wanted him in January

Graeme Murty’s Glasgow Rangers were interested in bringing Louis Moult to Ibrox before his move to Preston North End.

Preston North End striker Louis Moult has suggested to The Scottish Sun that Rangers were interested in signing him in the January transfer window.

Moult, though, has stated that although he was flattered by the interest from Graeme Murty’s Rangers, it was Preston who were most interested in signing him from Motherwell this month.

According to The Motherwell Times, Preston in the Championship in England paid Scottish Premiership side Motherwell a transfer fee of £450,000 in order to secure the services of the 25-year-old striker.

Moult told The Scottish Sun when asked about interest from Rangers: “I enjoyed my time in Scotland. My family loved their time in Scotland, too. My daughter was born there. And my other daughter has spent the majority of her life there.

“I heard of the interest from other clubs up there and it was flattering. But Preston were the ones that made it happen and seemed the most interested.

“They were just so keen to get me. They made it clear they were desperate to speak to me. When that happened it told me how much they wanted me here.”

Moult proved himself in the Scottish Premiership and would have been a great signing for Rangers.

Perhaps the Ibrox club should have pressed more and shown real intent in signing the former Stoke City prospect.

Meanwhile, Andy Halliday has admitted that he thought that his Rangers career was over when he had to leave the Gers on loan in the summer of 2017.

The 26-year-old midfielder joined Gabala in Azerbaijan in the summer of 2017 and was expected to remain there until the end of the season.

However, Rangers manager Graeme Murty has recalled the former Middlesbrough man to Ibrox.

Halliday told The Scottish Sun: “I knew pretty early that my face didn’t fit. I had said to my agent, my friends and family that at the start of next season Rangers probably wasn’t where I was going to be.

“But I had time left on my contract. I was just hoping that I would get a second chance down the line and I’ve managed to get that now.”
