The Scottish Premiership side face Pep Guardiola’s men in the Champions League.

Former Celtic player and manager Lou Macari believes that the Hoops have the potential to spring a surprise when they face Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday, The Scottish Sun reports.

Brendan Rodgers’ men are underdogs for the contest due to Pep Guardiola’s side’s flawless start to the new season – they have won every game they have played – and the fact that the Bhoys were thrashed 7-0 by Barcelona in the opening game of the competition.

But Macari has insisted that it would be wrong to write Celtic off just yet as he believes they will get opportunities against the Premier League outfit, before reminding doubters of his old side’s victory over Barca in the same competition a few years ago.

“If you look at City’s form then you might suppose they just need to turn up to be handed the points but football isn’t like that,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

“I remember, four years ago, we were all speaking about how Barcelona were going to wallop Neil Lennon’s side that night and we all know how that turned out.

“Guardiola has won every game and that suggests that they’re an all-conquering side but they’re not — they’re beatable. If Celtic can get their noses in front, they might realise that as well.”

While Guardiola’s men have been sensational this season, they have occasionally looked vulnerable at the back. And Rodgers will be reminding his players that if they can win a penalty against the Catalan giants – which Moussa Dembele would unfortunately miss when the score was 1-0 – then they should be able to create the openings that will allow them to test the away side.

And with the tremendous atmosphere that is always created on European nights at Parkhead, if Celtic can get on top, they will back themselves to hold on to secure yet another famous win.
