The German World Cup winner is a big fan of the way in which Liverpool play.

Germany and Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthäus spoke to reporters about next season’s race for the Premier League title, and backed Liverpool to be Manchester City’s closest challengers, as quoted by the Express.

The Reds currently sit in third spot in the Premier League table, 18 points adrift of City, having played a game more than the league leaders.

Matthaus, who earned an incredible 150 caps for Germany, offered high words of praise for the current setup at Liverpool, when speaking to reporters, tipping them to push City all the way next season, as quoted by the Express:

“Liverpool is not afraid to play against Manchester City. They showed weeks ago how you can win against Manchester City. They have a good offence, they work better in the defence and this is the key to win titles. Maybe City has more money but I know the mentality of Klopp, I know the mentality of his team. They work very hard.”

One thing is for sure, Guardiola will be wary of Liverpool next season, after Klopp’s men taught his side a lesson at Anfield in January.

The Merseyside outfit still have seven games remaining this season, of course, and they must ensure that they finish inside the Champions League spots, if this term is to be considered a successful one.
