As you may have heard, Newcastle are interested in signing Christian Pulisic if Chelsea put him up for sale.

The £150,000-a-week man has endured a difficult time at Stamford Bridge following a £58m move from Borussia Dortmund in January 2019, scoring just 25 goals in 115 appearances for the Blues.

Nevertheless, Newcastle remain admirers of the United States international.

If a deal can be done, it would seemingly come with the approval of Gary Lineker.

What’s the story?

Well, the BBC Match of the Day host once said that Pulisic has “got a lot of talent” and feels he has a “real chance” of becoming a “superstar” in the Premier League.

That is yet to happen, but a move to Newcastle could change things for the 23-year-old.

Speaking to Football London, Lineker said: “I’ve seen quite a bit of him and I think he’s got a lot of talent. He is talented, there’s no question about that. It’s good to see a young American talent because if he does become a superstar that will be a real lift for the game over the other side of the pond.

“He’s got a real chance, but if I could pick one of them I would definitely go with Jadon Sancho.”

Clearly, the 61-year-old prefers Jadon Sancho, although we doubt Newcastle will be able to get their hands on the England international, seeing as Manchester United only recently spent £73m on him!

In 38 appearances last season, Pulisic scored eight goals, while also providing five assists.

Newcastle should avoid Christian Pulisic

As talented as the American is, Newcastle can find better value for money.

Chelsea will surely want to recoup a large portion of their £58m investment, while Pulisic will also presumably ask for the same £150,000-a-week salary at Newcastle, if not a pay rise on those wages.

After allowing Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku to depart west London, we doubt Thomas Tuchel would let another attacking option leave on the cheap as well.

For his lack of output since arriving in England, we don’t believe Pulisic would be worth the money for Eddie Howe.
