Last night, Poland suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Netherlands in UEFA Nations League action, where Aston Villa defender Jan Bednarek struggled.
The £60,000-a-week man was going into the game off the back of just two Premier League appearances so far this season, both of which came for Southampton before his loan move to Villa Park.
On the basis of his display, it is safe to say that Bednarek is a bit rusty.
Polish media criticise Aston Villa defender Jan Bednarek
After the game, Polish news outlet Przeglad Sportowy discussed the Aston Villa man’s performance, and they were highly critical of his display.
They wrote: “Bednarek declared that he was well prepared. It is hard to assume what he would have looked like if he had been in match rhythm, but on Thursday he had a lot of problems with positioning, his cooperation with Przemyslaw Frankowski was very poor. Uncertain, late, the main culprit in the second conceded goal. This is not World Cup form.”

In fairness to the 26-year-old, he hasn’t played much football so far this season, so it will take time for him to get back into the swing of things.
However, on a personal level, Bednarek will need to step things up if he wants to add to his 42 caps for Poland at the World Cup in November.
Jan Bednarek not the only concern for Aston Villa
The international break is far from over for Steven Gerrard, but a lot has already gone wrong.
Aston Villa could be without Lucas Digne for weeks after he suffered an ankle injury while on international duty with France, while Boubacar Kamara has also been forced to withdraw from the squad as well.
The 22-year-old suffered knee ligament damage in the 1-0 win over Southampton, and is set to miss two months of action according to the Shropshire Star.
With just under a week left of the international break, Gerrard will hope to see his fortunes improve.
