‘Lot of doubts’: Player didn’t want Leeds move, now he’s joining Liverpool

New Liverpool signing Cody Gakpo has told The Mirror that Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United and Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United wanted to sign him from PSV before his move to Anfield.

Gakpo has said that he thought that he was going to Manchester United.

The Netherlands international forward, who starred at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, has added that Leeds wanted to take him to Elland Road last summer, but he had doubts about a move to Elland Road

Gakpo is now joining Liverpool from PSV in the January transfer window.

The Guardian, have reported that the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners will reportedly pay £37 million in transfer fees for the 23-year-old.

Gakpo said: “It was difficult this summer. It was a very intense period.

“I tried to find my peace, but it was difficult. I thought I was going to Manchester United, but in the end it didn’t work out.

“Leeds United came in. They are a good club, but I asked myself if I should really go there and when you have a lot of doubts, it is not good.”

Liverpool are the winners

That Leeds United and Manchester United wanted to sign Cody Gakpo shows just highly the 23-year-old is rated, and Liverpool are the clear winners in this transfer.

The youngster is a very good and versatile forward who can operate out wide or down the middle.

We believe that Gakpo is a very good signing for Liverpool and is going to make Jurgen Klopp’s side better and more potent in attack.
