Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has told The Express that Ben White is happy playing as a right-back despite being a central defender by trade.

White has been playing as a right-back for Arsenal this season, with William Saliba and Gabriel deployed in central defence.

Former Leeds United loanee White and Gabriel were the two main centre-backs for Arsenal last season.

However, Saliba has been superb for the Gunners so far this season and is a regular in the team.

Arsenal boss Arteta has said that £50 million England international centre-back White is very happy playing at right-back.

The Spaniard has said that the 25-year-old would play in midfield if he asked him to.

Arteta said about White: “Yeah I think he’s very happy, I think he’s really enjoying it. He finds himself with a bit more freedom and you can see when he’s got space he likes to attack.

“I think he’s happy there, yeah. He’s got this capacity. Physically he’s a really special player.

“He’s very intelligent and very gifted and he has a lot of courage to play this game. So if you tell him to play midfield, he will. He will give his best.”

Important player for Arsenal

In our view, Ben White is one of the best and most important players at Arsenal and will play a big role for the Gunners in the coming weeks and months.

White has actually played in defensive midfield before, and as Arteta notes, if the 25-year-old is asked to play in the middle of the park, then he will do so and will do a good job.

The England international is doing extremely well at right-back, and we do not think that there is any reason for Arteta to move him away from that position at the moment.
