Chris Sutton has backed Celtic as they reportedly prepare to sell Tom Rogic.
According to The Daily Mail, an unnamed Qatari club has lodged a £4 million bid for the Australia international.
And on Friday, Celtic boss Neil Lennon confirmed the interest and said that ‘we’ll see how it pans out’ in a clear indication that the Hoops are willing to do business.
Rogic was one of the Bhoys’ biggest and most important players during Brendan Rodgers’s time in Glasgow, but the 27-year-old’s injury issues have exacerbated in recent seasons and he only started six Premiership games last season.
And for £4 million, it seems like a no-brainer for Lennon to offload him, something that Sutton agrees with.
He told The Record: “The fact Tom Rogic looks to be leaving is going to give more opportunity. The Australian has lost his way. No one was a bigger fan than me during his purple patch under Brendan Rodgers but he’s simply not reliable enough in terms of fitness these days.”
Selling Rogic is fine but Lennon has to also keep Olivier Ntcham at the club.
The Frenchman is sort of a fitter version of Rogic and Celtic will need the former Manchester City youth as they press for 10-in-a-row.
Plus, it gives the Northern Irish manager a little more to spend if it is indeed true that they’re getting £4 million.
