Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers need to retain Greg Docherty, not ditch him.

Rangers kick off their season on Tuesday and time will tell what sort of future Greg Docherty has in Glasgow.
Steven Gerrard’s side host St Joseph’s in the first round of Europa League qualifying and some eyes will be latched on whether Docherty plays.
The 22-year-old was loaned out to Shrewsbury Town last summer, but he killed it by scoring 10 goals and setting up 11 in all competitions, earning another chance to succeed at boyhood club Rangers.
But Gerrard has an abundance of quality midfield players and if the Scot leaves Ibrox in any capacity between now and September then it’ll send a really, really bad message.
Docherty has shown a hell of a lot of heart these past 10 months and proven to the light Blues manager that he wants nothing more than to succeed in Glasgow.
He has done more than enough to earn the chance to stay in Gerrard’s first-team squad for the season ahead and not get loaned out again.
But if Gerrard does ditch him, what sort of message does it send to the likes of Ross McCrorie or any other promising young player that he loans out this summer?
What chance do they have of making the grade at Ibrox if Docherty played out of his skin for nine months, in an unfamiliar position initially, and still isn’t deemed good enough? Where’s the incentive to prove Gerrard wrong if it doesn’t result in first-team chances?
