Glasgow Rangers midfielder Josh Windass has been linked with a move away from Ibrox.

Heading into the January transfer window, there seemed to be few Rangers players enjoying a better run of form than Josh Windass, with five goals coming in 11 Scottish Premiership appearances leading into the winter break for the Englishman.

Following the goalless draw to Celtic at Parkhead, the idea of losing the forward therefore, would have seemed extremely daunting for Graeme Murty’s men as he certainly looked to be one of the most dangerous players in the squad and perhaps one of the players who was most likely to make something happen out of nothing.

And with the Daily Record now suggesting that both Preston North End and Leeds United are keen to bring the 24-year-old to the Championship, it would undoubtedly still be a massive blow for the Gers heading into the second-half of the season if he was to leave Ibrox.

However, perhaps it would be fair to suggest that the Light Blues’ activity during the January transfer window would make the former Accrington Stanley man’s departure much easier to cope with if a move did take place.

It has to be said that Rangers look to be well on their way to enjoying a brilliant month and director of football Mark Allen deserves credit, with Sean Goss, Russell Martin, Jamie Murphy and Jason Cummings all arriving on loan and The Sun reporting that Emerson Hyndman is in contention to become their fifth loanee.

The deals involving Murphy and Cummings in particular mean that the Gers have additional depth in the positions that Windass tends to feature in, and both signings have generally been accepted as excellent deals for the club.

Losing Windass would still be a setback if he did end up leaving, but perhaps it would be fair to suggest that it would not be quite as difficult for Murty to cope than it would have been had he gone at the start of the window.
