‘Loses his head’: Sky pundit says £42m Tottenham player has completely changed

Clinton Morrison has spoken about the change in character from Tottenham Hotspur defender, Cristian Romero.

The World Cup winner has always been highly-regarded by those at Tottenham, but for Morrison, he was prone to ‘losing his head’ on occasions.

But the former Premier League striker feels all of that has now turned on its head because of Micky van de Ven, as he told Sky Sports News (14/10/23 at 2:30 pm).

The popular Dutch defender joined Tottenham this summer and Morrison thinks Cristian Romero has become a ‘better player’, as a result.

It wasn’t so long ago that Spurs were shipping five goals in 20 minutes at Newcastle United. Romero was part of that team.

Yet, fast forward to the present and Spurs have only conceded eight goals from their opening eight matches, as they sit top of the tree under Ange Postecoglou.

“I think van de Ven has made Romero a better player,” said Morrison. “He’s not losing his head as much. Van de Ven can cover the ground and he scored the winning goal against Luton Town.

“I think the combination play between the two of them, it’s really good. He is aggressive. He can defend. We know he can.

“But sometimes, he loses his head. Then gets a yellow card. Make another silly tackle and gets a red card. He is so important to that team, at the moment.”

When you have a World Cup winner’s medal in your cabinet and Lionel Messi is calling you ‘the best in the world’, then you must have something about you.

Yes, Messi is biased when calling Romero ‘the best in the world’, but he has the qualities to reach the top of the tree because the £42 million star (Sky Sports) isn’t there yet.

It could be argued that he didn’t have the right partner in order to put in those consistent performances because of Eric Dier’s previous struggles, well, he can’t argue with van de Ven beside him now.
