Loris Karius is likely to make his Newcastle debut in remarkable circumstances after Nick Pope received a red card ahead of the Carabao Cup final.
The 29-year-old joined Newcastle back in September after his contract at Liverpool expired, where his reputation was effectively destroyed following a couple of significant errors in the 2018 Champions League final.
Nevertheless, the German now has a shot at redemption as he finds himself the most likely option for Eddie Howe in between the sticks at Wembley ahead of Mark Gillespie, with Martin Dubravka cup-tied.
So, how has Karius performed against Manchester United in the past ahead of the Carabao Cup final? Let’s take a look…
Loris Karius record against Manchester United
Well, Karius has only ever made two appearances against Manchester United.
Unfortunately for the more superstitious Newcastle fans among us, he has failed to taste victory in those outings.

Karius first appeared against Manchester United back in the 2016/17 campaign, where he helped Liverpool record a 0-0 draw with a clean sheet against the Red Devils at Anfield.
The German glovesman then made his second appearance against Manchester United in the 2017/18 campaign, as he suffered a 2-1 defeat with Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Karius conceded two goals to Marcus Rashford within 24 minutes of that clash, and with the England international on fire at the moment – he has scored 16 goals since the World Cup ended – a repeat of that at Wembley certainly isn’t impossible.
In truth, despite his Liverpool career falling apart after the 2018 Champions League final, Karius actually has a respectable record for the Reds.
In 49 appearances under Jürgen Klopp, the 6ft 2in shot-stopper kept 22 clean sheets and conceded 47 goals.
Even to this day, people mock Karius for that 2019 Champions League final, in which he threw the ball into his own net via the leg of Karim Benzema, and also dropped Gareth Bale’s shot to hand Real Madrid a 3-1 win.
However, if he can help Newcastle win their first significant trophy since 1955, all will be forgotten.
