Loris Karius has expressed his excitement about working with Eddie Howe after signing for Newcastle United this week as a free agent following his release from Liverpool in the summer.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the German shot-stopper revealed his admiration for the Newcastle boss after Karius was signed by the Magpies this week following the departure of Martin Dubravka to Manchester United and an injury to Karl Darlow.

With Nick Pope the club’s asserted no. 1 option, Karius will provide cover for the England international with Darlow out on the treatment table, and Newcastle signing for the former Liverpool keeper has gone done well with supporters, who are excited to see the German back in football.

Karius’ career infamously took a turn for the worse after the 2018 UEFA Champions League final for the Reds, however, signing for Newcastle and leaving Anfield for good could be a new beginning for the goalkeeper, with Howe seemingly having big hopes for the former Mainz star.

Indeed, Howe has already done well with transforming some players at Newcastle from outcasts to Premier League stars, namely Joelinton and Miguel Almiron, and Karius sounds positive about working with the English coach, where the goalkeeper could undergo a similar change in his performances.

The former Liverpool star said about working with Howe: “I’m excited [to work with Eddie Howe]. I know him quite a bit now from playing against him and it was always very difficult to play against. He’s a very exciting coach and he plays really attractive football, so I’m really excited to work with him.”

After all, Karius will be away from the spotlight and working as Pope’s debut, and with League Cup and FA Cup fixtures coming up, the German has a chance to impress English football fans if works hard in training and gains Howe’s trust to allow himself to feature on the pitch again.
