The German goalkeeper is struggling to settle in at Liverpool.
Back at the start of 2013 Manchester United legend Gary Neville made some scathing comments on the performances of Manchester United’s goalkeeper David De Gea.
He was speaking on Sky Sports when he had this to say about the then 22-year-old:
“There is an incredible amount of accountability in that dressing room; it is not a place that is forgiving, it is not a place where you won’t get people who will confront each other when mistakes are made.
“If you play at that club, in that dressing room under that manager it’s not a case of destroying his confidence, it’s about learning fast.”
Liverpool’s Loris Karius
Nearly four years later and a 23-year-old goalkeeper at their biggest rivals Liverpool is receiving similar criticism, but from a Liverpool legend.
Loris Karius has hardly covered himself in glory since making a move to the club in the summer.

The German stopper had a poor game against Bournemouth at the weekend and speaking on Sky Sports after the game Carragher was scathing:
“This goalkeeper is yet to convince me – in any game – that he’s of the required standard.
“The seven or eight games he has played, and I know it’s still early days and who knows how he will do over the next two or three years, but it has to be a massive improvement from him.
“He hasn’t done anything yet in those games to impress me.”
Manchester United’s David De Gea
But both Neville and Carragher also made one thing clear about both players when they criticised them – their age.
At that age goalkeepers are expected to make the odd mistake and in the case of De Gea and Karius both seem to have physical developing to do still at that age.
De Gea went on to prove Neville right, when these comments from that same night in December 2013 are reheard:
Jamie Carragher during the press conference
“I’ve no doubts that David De Gea can be a top goalkeeper, one of the best in the world.”
Karius must hope he can do the same at Liverpool and have Carragher singing his praises in the years to come.
