Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius is still wanted at Basel during the January transfer window after a summer move fell through.

That’s according to Bild’s Christian Falk, who claims that Basel will have another go at signing Karius in January.

Basel really want to sign Karius, and aren’t being put off by the fact that they couldn’t agree terms for him in August.

They’re now relying on a Karius U-turn ahead of the January window.

Basel made one attempt last month

The Athletic reported earlier this month that Basel put an offer on the table for Karius before the transfer deadline.

Karius couldn’t agree personal terms on a permanent move. Basel tried a loan deal, but that didn’t work either.

Karius is now stuck at Liverpool where he has absolutely no chance of playing.

Basel currently have Heinz Lindner in goal with Djordje Nikolic backing him up.

Karius would likely arrive as first-choice goalkeeper at Basel, but it will all depend on the money side of things as the Swiss side prepare a new attempt.

Klopp’s mind clearly made up on Karius at Liverpool

There is just no way back for Karius at Liverpool.

The German hasn’t played a competitive game for Liverpool since the Champions League final in 2018.

After Karius rejected the move to Basel, Klopp left him out of Liverpool’s Champions League squad.

Even if Liverpool had a goalkeeping crisis, he would likely turn to teenager Marcelo Pitaluga before Karius.

The 28-year-old quite simply needs to leave permanently for the sake of his career – and Basel could offer him an escape route from Anfield.
