Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has insisted to the club’s official website that he will not rush his return from injury.

The goalkeeper was one of a whole host of new faces to arrive at Anfield this summer as Jurgen Klopp overhauled his squad.

There was a lot of excitement about his arrival, with many hoping he was coming in as a direct replacement for current number one Simon Mignolet, who continues to come in for criticism from the club’s fans.

It has not been an ideal start for him though as a clash with Dejan Lovren in pre-season saw him break his hand.

He is fast on the road to recovery but insists he will not rush that return.

“We’re ahead of schedule because in total it’s been about five weeks [since the injury] I think, but I don’t want to rush it too much,” he told the club’s official website.

“Now I am in the last stages, I just want to feel good and confident about it, that it’s all done. I am not going to rush it because of two or three days, but if I feel good then maybe I will be back way sooner than expected.”

It now remains to be seen if Karius will be handed an instant place in the Liverpool first team when he is back fully fit.

Confidence in current number one Simon Mignolet has been low for several years, with a series of shaky performances failing to earn him the trust of the Anfield faithful.

Karius meanwhile is highly rated and it will be interesting to see if Jurgen Klopp elects to make an immediate change when he returns from injury.
