The Liverpool goalkeeper has received heavy criticism after making some high profile errors over the past year.
Reds stopper Loris Karius sat down for an exclusive interview with the Liverpool Echo, and insisted that his performances have been of an acceptable standard this season, despite receiving heavy criticism from fans and pundits alike.
The 24-year-old joined Liverpool from Mainz in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £4.7 million, and has gone on to make 30 appearances for Jürgen Klopp’s side.
His inconsistency has hampered his chances of nailing down a regular first-team spot at Anfield, however, with Klopp chopping and changing goalkeepers throughout the course of the season.
Karius has performed slightly better of late, though, and he will be hoping that a more consistent run of games will prove to be beneficial to his development.
The German sat down for an exclusive interview with the Liverpool Echo, and insisted that it hasn’t been all bad for him this season, highlighting his displays in the Champions League as particularly pleasing moments for him:
“It was difficult in the first half of the season but I didn’t do too bad. I still had high quality games in the Champions League and I knew my chance would come in the Premier League. I went in and out of the team a bit but I showed the manager that when he needs me I’m there.”
Liverpool have a vitally important four months ahead of them, and whether they can be successful with Karius between the sticks remains to be seen.
