The Liverpool goalkeeper is coming in for criticism after the loss to Bournemouth.

Speaking to ESPN, former Liverpool goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has labelled current Reds number one Loris Karius as a liability.

Karius arrived at Anfield in the summer as a replacement for Simon Mignolet, who has struggled to impress since arriving at the club.

Karius has failed to prove himself so far, though, with a series of disappointing displays between the sticks.

His worst came on Sunday in the 4-3 loss to Bournemouth as a late fumble allowed Nathan Ake to score and seal all three points for the Cherries.

He has come in for criticism since then and now Hislop has had his say on the Reds number one.

“Goalkeeping is an issue for Liverpool and has been an issue for a number of years,” he told ESPNFC.

“Now Karius, although his numbers are better than Simon Mignolet, certainly this season in terms of goals against etc, he doesn’t fill you with confidence.

“Mignolet, you knew, was good for a big performance; he was good for an error, but he was good for a big performance. I don’t get that feeling with Karius; I think he’s proving to be a liability.”

It will certainly be interesting to see if Karius can go on to prove his critics wrong at Liverpool.

There have been some flashes of his ability over the last few months and indeed in the game against Bournemouth.

Perhaps the Reds would be wise to look at David de Gea. The Spaniard also initially struggled in the Premier League but soon developed into the best ‘keeper in the league and given time Karius could do the same.
