Mark Warburton’s spell at Glasgow Rangers came to an end earlier this month, but Lorenzo Amoruso has expressed some sympathy for him.

Lorenzo Amoruso has suggested to the Sunday Post that he does not feel that Mark Warburton failed during his time as Rangers boss before offering a frank assessment of the current squad.
Warburton departed from Ibrox earlier this month. And while the circumstances surrounding his exit do not appear to be exactly clear, there is no question that the Gers had been disappointing and the fans were beginning to turn on the squad.
But Light Blues hero Amoruso has expressed some sympathy for the club’s former manager before suggesting that the squad are the ones who have largely not been up to scratch this term.
“I do not think Mark Warburton failed. Certainly everyone has their own responsibilities, but in the end it is the players who have to go out on the pitch,” he said, as reported by the Sunday Post.

“I always think a coach can only influence 50% – at most – of what goes on in any game.
“So you have to also take a close look at those who wear the jerseys.
“And I must say that, in my opinion, in the group there are some players who are maybe not of the standard you would associate with Rangers Football Club.”
While Warburton was starting to become less popular with the Ibrox faithful with almost every performance, the early signs do suggest that Amoruso’s assessment of the situation may not be too far off the mark.
Graeme Murty has lost both of the Scottish Premiership games in charge, and that is perhaps why the hierarchy need to look to make a permanent appointment before the end of the season so the new manager can make his own assessment about the squad ahead of what will surely be a crucial summer for the Ibrox side.
