Xherdan Shaqiri channeled his inner Robin van Persie in Liverpool training on Thursday afternoon.
Liverpool released footage on Twitter of their players going through a finishing drill.
There were some heavy hitters involved in the footage, like Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, but Shaqiri really stole the show.
Early in the video, the Switzerland international can be seen running on to an over-the-top ball and lashing home a stunning volley with his left foot.
Yes, it’s only a training-ground goal but, with Jurgen Klopp watching on, it was a reminder of the 29-year-old’s undeniable talent.
Van Persie has scored quite a few goals like that during his senior career at Arsenal and Manchester United, with a memorable one coming at Anfield for the Gunners in 2012, ironically.
Here’s how some Liverpool fans reacted to goal on Twitter:
Klopp’s side resume their top-four bid with a visit of Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon, but Shaqiri has only started seven in all competitions all season long and therefore it seems unlikely that even his exploits at the Axa Training Centre will land him a spot in the first XI tomorrow.
