Liverpool had a special guest for their Champions League visit over Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s side beat the Spanish outfit 2-0 at Anfield to seal their progress into the last 16 of the competition.

And a former player of both clubs was spotted in the crowd at Liverpool’s stadium.

Fernando Torres represented both the Reds and Atleti during his playing career.

The former Spain international netted 91 goals in all competitions for Liverpool en route to securing his place as a huge fan favourite, though a move to Chelsea 10 years ago spoiled that legacy to some degree.

Nevertheless, he was back at his old English club on Wednesday and television cameras caught him looking quite forlorn at the sight of Atletico – where he has returned as a youth-team coach – losing to the Premier League giants.

Here’s how some Liverpool fans reacted to spotting Torres:

He may not be as popular on the red side of the Merseyside divide anymore, but there’s no denying that he was, at one point, a brilliant goalscorer for Rafael Benitez.

Netting 91 times in less than 230 appearances for Liverpool is evidence of that but, as mentioned, his move to Stamford Bridge sort of spoiled the legacy he left behind to some extent.
