Baah humbug indeed.
With both Celtic and Rangers falling short in their pursuit of one of Britain’s most exciting teenage talents, the Old Firm rivals may end up feeling a little, erm, sheepish if Kwadwo Baah blossoms into a Premier League whizzkid at Watford.
The top-flight newcomers confirmed the arrival of the fleet-footed Rochdale starlet this week.
And though snapping up an 18-year-old from a relegated, third-tier outfit might not look like a statement signing on paper, the sheer amount of interest in Baah speaks volumes about a man who came oh-so close to joining Champions League finalists Manchester City as recently as January (Standard).
GhanaSoccerNet reported Celtic and Rangers were hoping to lure Baah north of the border.
According to The Athletic, meanwhile, David Moyes contacted Rochdale manager Brian Barry-Murphy in January to discuss a potential deal for the German-born England U18 international.
Watford, however, found themselves in a rather unique position of being able to offer Baah Premier League football and the prospect of regular game-time.
It is certainly hard to imagine the teenager, even one brimming with such potential, ousting Phil Foden or Riyad Mahrez at Manchester City.
“He’s a very special talent. He’s going to attract the headlines – and rightly so because he’s a very dangerous player,” Barry-Murphy told News Chain Online in December.
“In very simple terms, if I was coming to the game I would enjoy watching him.”
Something to look forward to, then, for Watford supporters as the Hertfordshire outfit prepare for a return to the big time.
