Some Tottenham Hotspur fans on social media have been raving over Dele Alli after his performance against Stoke City in the Carabao Cup.
The attacking midfielder was handed a rare start by Jose Mourinho against the Potters, and it’s fair to say that he impressed Spurs fans upon his return to the starting XI.
We can understand why Tottenham fans were so impressed by Alli’s showing here, he looked as though he was having a lot of fun on the pitch, even performing a spectacular double nutmeg at one point in the match, and he rightly received a lot of praise online for his showing.
Unfortunately, not everyone saw it like that.
Indeed, Jose Mourinho was quick to hit out at this player after the game, claiming that Alli’s flick in the build-up to Stoke’s goal made him angry.
To be fair, Alli did mess up in that instance, but when you know a player’s confidence is already likely to be shot after a long spell out of the starting XI, you don’t need to lay into a player like this, especially after a 3-1 win.
Regardless of what Mourinho thinks, fans online were more than happy to praise Alli for his showing here.
