Troy Deeney has told talkSPORT (02/11/20 at 6:15 am) that Ryan Fraser is starting to get ‘his feet under the carpet’ at Newcastle and believes he looked ‘very sharp’ over the weekend.

The 26-year-old is still being eased in but Deeney has urged Steve Bruce to unleash Newcastle’s summer signing and backed him to ‘start impacting games’ after the international break.

Fraser came off the bench on Sunday and combined with his old partner in crime, Callum Wilson, to help his side secure a valuable three points.

It will be interesting to see if Bruce now begins to hand the Scotsman with a starting spot in the league because Deeney suggested he is now ready.

“He looked sharp, he looked very sharp,” said Deeney. “He has his feet under the carpet now.

“You know what Ryan is like anyway. He’s sharp and direct. He was coming off the left [against Everton] a few times as well. It looks like he is ready to start impacting games probably after the international break you will expect to see him starting.

“You can imagine defending against him and Saint-Maximin.”

Both Fraser and Wilson endured miserable times during the back end of their reigns at Bournemouth, but those at Newcastle clearly felt they could get a tune out of them once again.

Whilst Tottenham duo Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane combine with destruction in the final third this season, it needs to be remembered that both Fraser and Wilson can also cause havoc.

From Bruce’s perspective, his team’s winning and those in the background are ensuring that they are pushing the starting XI as far as they can.
