Clinton Morrison says Georginio Rutter ‘looks like a handful’ in the Championship after his struggles with Leeds United in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old was now one of a number of infamous signings made by Jesse Marsch and Leeds United in January.

Not only was the American backed and allowed to bring in the likes of Georginio Rutter, but he hardly got any time to work with them because he was booted out less than a month later.

That didn’t help the cause of someone like Georginio Rutter, who failed to score in the Premier League, but it also needs to be noted that he was mainly used from the bench.

Whilst a number of players left the club upon Leeds’ relegation, mainly on loan, Georginio Rutter stayed put so he could try to help the club make a return to the big time.

And now he is benefiting from all of that, as he scored for the second time on the road at the weekend, this time against Millwall at the Den, with Clinton Morrison lauding his efforts, as he told Sky Sports News (17/09/23).

“Very good finish (against Millwall),” said Morrison. “He struggled in the Premier League. But he looks like a handful in the Championship and he is getting his goals.

“The players Leeds have got going forward. They should be there or thereabouts (for promotion).”

Rutter can hit big numbers

When the all-action forward was in Germany, he was a player who liked to play with freedom, produce moments of magic, dance his way past opponents and, at times, play like he was the only one on the pitch.

When he first arrived at Leeds, he just wasn’t allowed to express himself because of the mess he walked into.

With or without him, Leeds would have still gone down. But now that he is in a better place and mindset, then fans will start to see him thrive and hit serious numbers, in both goals and assists, in the Championship this season.
