Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Dean Smith has hinted that Morgan Sanson could make his Aston Villa debut against Southampton this weekend.
The French midfielder arrived from Marseille last week, but he wasn’t quite ready to face off against Burnley on Wednesday night.
However, it seems after a few training sessions with his new teammates, Sanson is ready to be a part of the matchday squad against Southampton.
“He looks in a good place so he’s certainly available for the squad [to face Southampton],” Smith said.
“He’s a really good technician, he covers ground really well and he can fill three positions in midfield.”

This is certainly exciting to hear if you’re a Villa fan.
There’s plenty of anticipation amongst the fanbase for Sanson to make his debut, and it seems as though we could be seeing him for the first time against Southampton.
Whether or not he starts remains to be seen, but Smith clearly likes what he’s seen of him so far, caling him a good technician and praising his work rate.
It’s always intriguing to see a new player enter the Premier League, and with this January window being so quiet so far, there will be plenty of eyes on Sanson as he prepares to make his debut.
Of course, he could remain an unused substitute this weekend, which would be a bit of an anti-climax, but that doesn’t seem the most likely scenario.
