
Liverpool rounded off their season with a 3-1 win away to Newcastle United today – and some fans were raving about one player who Jurgen Klopp recalled to the first XI.
With nothing to play for, the newly-crowned Premier League champions made a string of changes and left some heavy hitters like Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah on the bench.
Liverpool boss Klopp started Takumi Minamino for only the second time in a Premier League game today and the Japan international was looking very likely.
Minamino, who had played only a little over 100 minutes of football since football resumed in June, started in an attacking role and alternated between operating on the left and through the middle.
That sense of freedom seemed to take the former Salzburg star out of his shell a little, and he forced Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka into a smart save at one point during the first half.
His movement caused the hosts all sorts of problems all afternoon, before Klopp removed him midway through the second half.
Still, it was a encouraging display and Liverpool fans were certainly enthused by what they saw after what’s been a very lukewarm start to life under Klopp in England.
