As far as second-half performances go, this was bad from Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs did well to hold Chelsea to a 0-0 draw midway through Sunday’s visit of the European champions.
But by the time the final whistle sounded, Tottenham found themselves on the end of a 3-0 thumping following a rousing second-half display from the Blues.
Harry Kane was all over the place, Tanguy Ndombele started well but faded poorly and Son Heung-min cut a frustrated figure.
But one Lilywhites player who did impress was Eric Dier.
The England international was a much-maligned figure under Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino – who brought him to North London seven years ago for £4 million – but Nuno Espirito Santo seems to have instilled a new sense of belief in the player.
Under Nuno, Dier looks a much sharper and much cleaner centre-back and even some Tottenham fans were surprised by his performance against Chelsea. Here’s what they said after the game:
False dawn?
Dier has had quite a lot of periods with Tottenham where he has looked absolutely superb, only to regress a short time later.
But for now, it has to be said that he has been very good this season and although Spurs have conceded six in their last two Premier League games, it is quite hard to pin any of that on the 27-year-old.
