Takumi Minamino is finally off the mark for Liverpool.

The former Salzburg star joined the Reds for £7.2 million in January but it was an inauspicious first half-a-season for the attacker on Merseyside.

But Minamino has certainly kicked off the 2020-21 campaign with a bang.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp left him on the bench for this evening’s Community Shield clash with Arsenal at Wembley.

But Klopp introduced him for Neco Williams on the hour mark and it took only 13 minutes for him to have an impact.

Minamino equalised for Liverpool on 73 minutes, prodding home from close range after good work from Mo Salah.

It wasn’t only the goal, but it was his all-round contribution after scoring that caught the eye – and here’s how fans of the Anfield side reacted to his display:

Despite scoring a penalty during the shootout, Minamino’s goal in normal time wasn’t enough for Liverpool as Arsenal won 5-4, after Rhian Brewster fluffed his lines.

This wasn’t quite a friendly, but it wasn’t all that significant either and with the Japan international off the mark, Klopp will be hoping that the defeat can still be a springboard for his players – especially Minamino – this season.
