TalkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor has said that Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale will not be happy with the Gunners reportedly trying to sign David Raya.

The former Aston Villa striker has said on talkSPORT that Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale will be worried about his place in the starting lineup amid rumours that the Gunners are trying to sign Spain international goalkeeper David Raya from Brentford in the summer transfer window.

CM has reported that Arsenal are planning to make a bid of €30 million (£26 million) for Raya.

The report has noted that Arsenal goalkeeping coach Iñaki Caña personally wants to bring Raya to the Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer window.

The Athletic has also reported interest from Arsenal in the Brentford goalkeeper.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Arsenal are in contact with Raya’s camp over personal terms.

Ramsdale has been on the books of Arsenal since the summer of 2021 when he joined from Sheffield United for £24 million (Goal).

The England international is now the number one goalkeeper at Arsenal.

Agbonlahor said: “I think Raya is a better keeper. You know when you watched him at Brentford, some of the saves, playing from the back as well he’s so good.”

The talkSPORT pundit continued: “But if you’re Ramsdale, you’re like ‘oh’. A couple of keepers and now you’re looking to replace me. He wasn’t bad last season or am I missing certain games?

“How many teams in the Premier League do you see with two top keepers? You don’t. Look at my club Aston Villa, I’m not keen on our no.2 and you’ve got Liverpool, you’ve got Manchester United, teams don’t really have two top, top keepers.

“So if [Mikel Arteta] wants to go down that route, I understand it. You put pressure on Ramsdale, you know, a couple of mistakes you’re out like in other parts of the field.”

Aaron Ramsdale could thrive at Arsenal amid potential David Raya competition

In our opinion, Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramdale could thrive if he has competition from David Raya.

Both Ramsdale and Raya are very good goalkeepers, and the two players could push each other to raise their game.

Ramsdale has been superb for Arsenal, but the Englishman has made some mistakes.

The presence of Raya in the squad would force Ramsdale to step up his game and do better.

It can only be good and healthy for Arsenal to have to two top goalkeepers competing for a place in the starting lineup.
