Brighton and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter has shared the one thing he is excited for ahead of Newcastle United’s visit under interim boss Graeme Jones, via Sussex Live.
Jones will remain in the Magpies’ dugout for a third Premier League fixture this Saturday, per Sky Sports. The Toon are still searching for a permanent replacement for Steve Bruce, who left St James’ Park by mutual consent two-weeks ago following the Saudi-led takeover.
Newcastle drew with Crystal Palace and lost to Chelsea under Jones as they still seek a first win this season. They will arrive on the south coast this weekend inside the relegation zone and could sit bottom, should Norwich City claim their first win of the term at Brentford.
Brighton have been one of the Premier League’s surprise packages so far this season to sit eighth in the table. They claimed a point at Liverpool last weekend, and could have won at Anfield after recovering from two goals down.
Potter has not dwelled on what could have been for Brighton on Merseyside, but rather what’s to come against Newcastle. While paying little thought to the Magpies’ managerial search, as he looks forward to facing Jones in the opposing dugout.
“What Newcastle do, I have no idea and I have not given it much thought,” Potter said. “I have been concentrating on the team we are going to play against.
“A team that is fighting for the points, that is playing to their strengths, that is being led by Graeme Jones, who I know well. I am looking forward to seeing him.”

Jones will hope he can upset rather than excite Potter when Newcastle visit Brighton on Saturday. The Toon will not want to drift further away from safety entering the November international break. Handing their next permanent manager an even tougher challenge.
Newcastle’s lacklustre attack and the tame influence of their forwards against Chelsea must improve to take any result, however. Edouard Mendy rarely had much work to do in net at St James’ last week. And the Blues bided their time for a chance to score.
