Newcastle may not be enjoying the greatest of seasons in the Premier League but they’re still two tiers above their rivals

It’s the meme that’s dominated social media since Sunday night’s Superbowl, and now one of Newcastle United’s stars has got in on the act.
Steve Bruce’s side haven’t enjoyed the greatest campaign in the Premier League, but with Sunderland languishing in League One their rivals are always available for a bit of light relief.
Allan Saint-Maximin took advantage on Tuesday afternoon when a supporter responded to Newcastle’s tweet which confirmed that the meeting between their respective under-23 sides was postponed due to heavy snowfall.

One user responded: “Sunderland would win anyway lol you’re (sic) team is s***.”
Saint-Maximin responded by posting the popular Weeknd gif and adding the caption: “The Premier League calendar looking for Sunderland season after season.”
Magpies fans have lapped it up, with @jchaytor16 replying: “Allan this is superb” and @fans_toon adding: “Mackems in meltdown over this…They need to concentrate on their game tonight, it’s the big one! Shrewsbury away.”
The post has since been shared by Newcastle’s official club account.
Saint-Maximin has scored four goals in 39 appearances this season for Steve Bruce’s side, who currently sit 16th in the table.
The French winger, who arrived at the club from Nice in August 2019, signed a new contract in October 2020.
The Sun reported that he had more than doubled his previous wage of £36,000 per week.
He played from the start in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Southampton at St James’ Park, with
Sunderland, meanwhile, currently sit seventh in League One. They will indeed face Shrewsbury this evening, with Bruce’s side next in action against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
