Pundit was more buoyant about Sunderland’s chances than David Moyes.
Paul Merson
Sunderland look destined for relegation to the Championship, cut adrift at the bottom of the league.
It was a struggled manager David Moyes saw coming all season long, admitting at the start of the campaign that they were in for a survival battle.
His negativity did not go down well with fans, but not everybody expected them to struggle.
Pundit Paul Merson told SkySports that he felt the Black Cats would finish in a respectable 14th place, with David Moyes a major factor.
He said last August: “David Moyes is a good manager and this is a perfect job for him without the pressure of a club like Manchester United.
“He will make Sunderland (14) hard to beat and they will collect good results along the way.”
Battling… Sunderland manager David Moyes
Merson could not have been more wrong, with Sunderland easy to beat, and David Moyes looking like a poor fit for the club.
He has been unable to energise the fanbase, or their players, with very few showing any sign of improvement under him.
