Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise on Daniel Podence following his impressive performance against Manchester City.

The Portuguese player started alongside Raul Jimenez and Pedro Neto in attack, although Nuno Espirito Santo’s side suffered a 3-1 defeat.

However, the £16.6 million January signing excelled.

Podence sublimely nutmegged Kevin De Bruyne before crossing to Jimenez for Wolves’ only goal of the game, while he was also heavily involved throughout.

According to WhoScored, the 24-year-old had two shots and made two key passes. The former Olympiakos attacker also completed three tackles – more than any other Wolves player.

He could have also grabbed a goal. On one occasion the ball rolled towards Podence on the edge of the box but he left it for the onrushing Ruben Neves to strike.

Some thought the diminutive forward had actually scored when he swivelled and shot towards Ederson’s top-right corner.

However, the stanchion behind the goal created an illusion, with the ball actually hitting the outer side netting.

Just days after Diogo Jota’s move to Liverpool, Podence may have been feeling the pressure to replace his ex-teammate, who scored 16 goals last season.

However, that didn’t appear to be the case as the Wolves number 10 performed confidently and effectively against one of Europe’s best teams.

Here’s what some Wolves fans had to say about Podence’s display…
