Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has backed the Reds’ decision to sell Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.

Liverpool recently sold Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabian sides Al-Ettifaq and Al-Ittihad.

Both midfielders had been key players for Jurgen Klopp in recent years, but Carragher, speaking on The Overlap, has suggested that their legs had gone last season.

On the ex-Reds duo, the former defender said: “You’re getting offered money, massive money from Saudi Arabia, for Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, who looked like the legs had completely gone last season. Jordan Henderson’s 33; Fabinho, you’re not quite sure.”

With the Englishman and Brazilian having both departed Anfield, Klopp is now trying to sign another midfielder.

According to a report from Sky Sports, Liverpool have now had three bids rejected for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.

Liverpool have to replace Jordan Henderson and Fabinho

It is not hard to see why Liverpool sold Henderson and Fabinho. They got two decent offers for two players who are not exactly getting any younger.

That being said, it is a decision the Reds could come to regret if they do not replace them properly.

Liverpool have been able to bring Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to the club to strengthen their midfield, but they now look light in that area of the pitch following Henderson and Fabinho’s departures.

It is why it is pivotal that they land at least Lavia before the transfer window closes, which looks more than possible.

The Belgian is on the market following Southampton’s relegation to the Championship. The Merseyside club now just need to meet his valuation, which is £50m, according to Sky Sports’ report.

Liverpool have made a real effort to sign Lavia. It would be a real shame if they missed out on him now, especially when they need the arrival of another midfielder.
