‘Looked a lot like goodbye’: Bayern CEO makes Thiago claim amid Liverpool links

Bayern Munich’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge spoke to Bild about Thiago Alcantara’s future amid rumours of a potential move to England this summer.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for the Spaniard. The Guardian claimed last week that the Reds are keen on a move but they are not prepared to meet Bayern Munich’s £27.2 million valuation.

Thiago is a sensational player who would improve almost every team in the world. The former Barcelona man was superb in Bayern Munich’s Champions League final win over PSG, and it looks like that could have been his last game for the Bavarians.

Rummenigge revealed that Liverpool are yet to table a bid for the midfielder, but Thiago’s behaviour at the Allianz Arena this week wasn’t that of a player who wants to stay at the club.

He said: “We always read a lot about Liverpool, but they haven’t contacted us yet. Yesterday we had the appointment with our employees and his whole family was there and they wandered around the square in great nostalgia (in the Allianz Arena). I would almost say, that looked a lot like goodbye, as if he had made up his mind.”

Huge boost for Liverpool but transfer fee still an issue

That will certainly excite Liverpool fans but Jurgen Klopp’s side still have to agree a deal with the Bundesliga champions before Thiago can make his much-anticipated move to Anfield.

Liverpool had an incredible season in the Premier League last term. The Reds were deserved champions and every player in the squad did their bit to help them get there.

However, if there is one area of the squad that many feel Liverpool need to improve, it is their midfield. Signing a player like Thiago will almost certainly guarantee them more goals next season and increase their chances of defending their Premier League crown.

Rummenigge’s comments will excite everybody associated with the club but a potential deal could take some time, especially if Liverpool play hardball over the transfer fee in the coming weeks.
