The one-time England defender is currently a free agent and training with Luton Town.
Steven Caulker
Steven Caulker’s career took it’s most recent turn in December, as he was released by mutual consent by Queens Park Rangers. The centre-back, who scored on his one cap for England, has had a torrid time on and off the pitch in recent years and will now be looking for a fresh start.
Immediately after the exit was confirmed he found himself linked with a move to Celtic. Brendan Rodgers has a good relationship with the player and it looked a likely move.
Steven Caulker of England celebrates scoring
However, nothing ever came about and it does not currently appear that Celtic are going to take the plunge.
But their Old Firm rivals on the other hand would be the perfect destination for the one-time England international searching for redemption.
Rangers are starting to recover from the shocking reign of Pedro Caixinha under Graeme Murty and have done some good business in the transfer market this month. Russell Martin arrived on loan from Norwich city to shore up a flaky defence.
Danny Wilson of Rangers applauds the fans
However, yesterday saw Danny Wilson complete his protracted transfer to MLS outfit Colorado Rapids so there is certainly space in the Rangers squad for another centre-back option, especially with Bruno Alves’ injury record at Ibrox.
Caulker is currently training with Luton Town, although that is not expected to become a permanent move, but it means he is keeping fit and is looking to enjoy his football again.
There is little doubting his innate talent, and Rangers would not need to rush through a deal considering he is a free agent. Murty should surely have him on his radar if he believes the defence needs an experienced addition to finish out the season.
