Aston Villa secured a huge result this weekend as Dean Smith’s side thrashed an in-form Everton side 3-0, and Marvelous Nakamba was key to the result.
The 2019 £11m summer signing replaced John McGinn on the 40th-minute mark. And as stats from WhoScored show, Nakamba had a stormer of a performance, with the midfielder completing 95% of his passes for Villa.
The score was 0-0 heading into the final 30 minutes, but a blitz of goals from Matty Cash, a Lucas Digne own goal and Leon Bailey secured a huge win for Villa.
Indeed, the result put Villa up to tenth in the league table after five Premier League games, and it was a game that saw the best from Nakamba in some time.
The midfielder has failed to nail down a guaranteed starting position since his arrival two years ago from Club Brugge. But yesterday showed just how effective Nakamba can be for Villa in the right environment.
The Zimbabwe international controlled the midfield for the second half. And on social media, Villa fans were stunned with how impressive Nakamba was against Everton after his introduction.
After all, the Toffees were unbeaten in the league before last night’s match. Yet Villa were able to put them to the sword with a flurry of goals late on in the second half.
