Since Tim Sherwood took over the reins at Villa Park, Aston Villa have accumulated more points than his former club Tottenham Hotspur as per the table provided by Opta Stats.
The former Spurs player was in charge of the youth team at White Hart Lane before taking over the first team on an 18-month contract following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas.
Sherwood sparked mixed feelings from supporters, but his rapport with the players was second to none and his record proved outstanding – claiming 13 wins and 42 points in total from 22 games.
Nevertheless, he was dismissed of his duties by owner Daniel Levy and quickly replaced by former Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino.
For much of the season, it looked like an astute decision by the Spurs hierarchy but Sherwood’s impressive run at Villa Park since mid-February now paints a different picture.
The 46-year-old has guided the Villans to five wins in 11 Premier League matches, pulling them away from the relegation zone and accumulating more points than Spurs over the same period of time.
Furthermore, FA Cup victories over West Bromwich Albion and Liverpool have booked a Wembley final date against Sherwood’s former North London rivals Arsenal.
While there is still a long way to go in terms of proving his quality, Sherwood’s start at Villa is mightily impressive and one has to question whether Spurs really made the correct call last summer.
Villa finish off the campaign with a trip to Southampton before hosting Burnley while Spurs face Hull City at home and Everton at Goodison Park for the season finale.
