Arsenal fans could not help but laugh at Mikel Arteta and Nicolas Pepe’s ‘hug’ at full-time last night.
Frosty embrace
Arsenal ran out 5-1 winners over Sunderland in the League Cup and Arteta was quick to stride onto the pitch to congratulate his players.
Charlie Patino received a warm embrace from the manager, after he scored on his debut for the Gunners.
It was a special night for the 18-year-old, and one which only increases the hype around him.
It was also a big evening for Pepe, who was handed a start and impressed.
He claimed a goal and two assists for the Gunners, as he tormented the Sunderland defence.
Despite that display, Arteta’s hug with Pepe didn’t appear quite as warm as it did with Patino.
While the youngster got a big embrace, Arteta’s congratulations for Pepe didn’t last anywhere near the same time.
And Arsenal supporters picked up on the moment on Twitter.
On the way out?
Now, if Pepe was feeling slightly frustrated right now it would be understandable.
He has started just five Premier League games this season and seems further away from Arteta’s starting line-up then ever right now.
Pepe has featured just once in Arsenal’s last 10 league matches, and that appearance was only as a substitute.
With Gabriel Martinelli recently forcing his way into the team, it appears that Pepe’s time at Arsenal could be coming to an end.
And Football London suggests that the Gunners would be open to listening to offers for their record signing in January, with the opening of the transfer window on the horizon.
