Speaking on the BBC Radio 5 Live Football Daily Podcast, Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is one of few managers who possess the right drive to be a success in modern football.

The former Manchester United boss is undoubtedly one of the greatest managers in history, but it’s fair to say that things have changed since he started working in football.

The former Red Devils boss said that his work was heavily-based around energy and drive, and he says that he doesn’t see that in many young managers, naming Klopp and Pep Guardiola as two gaffers who possess that.

“I’m not being boastful here, but I had the personality to do well, the drive to do well the hunger and the energy. Even when I got into my 60s I wanted the players to always see my energy, so I looked at what I’d do on a Saturday night, my diet, how many hours I was sleeping. I made sure the players could see my energy all the time,” Ferguson said.

“There are young people out there with that drive, look at Klopp for instance and the drive he has brought to Liverpool, and Pep Guardiola down at City. There’s a place for people like that with the right credentials and the right material to do well.”

Fergie certainly isn’t wrong about Klopp.

The way the German speaks the way he acts on the touchline and the way he is in training videos just screams energy.

His team plays with a massive amount of energy as well, and it’s hard to argue that this Liverpool side aren’t one of the best teams in the world.

Guardiola is of a similar ilk, always animated and always engaged, while his team plays at a tempo that is certainly in his image.

Ferguson rates both Klopp and Guardiola and it’s fair to say that they’re two of the best in the world at the moment.
