Virgil van Dijk was mightly impressed with Caoimhin Kelleher in Liverpool training.
Liverpool’s towering centre-back shared that the rising Kelleher is on ‘flames’, as he compared him Brazil great, Dida.
As several Liverpool players, including Van Dijk, watched on from the sidelines in training, this is what he said about the Irishman, who was producing some stellar stops in between the sticks.
“Look at Caoimhin though,” said Van Dijk. “Absolutely flames. He’s playing like Dida, from the Brazil team
Last season was a breakthrough campaign for Kelleher and he will be hoping to earn more game time ahead of the new season.
Constant injuries to Alisson Becker and Adrian’s difficulties in between the sticks, eventually resulted in the 22-year-old being handed a chance by Jurgen Klopp.
And as he proved, including in the Champions League, that he belongs at this level.
It will be interesting to see if Klopp uses him as his main guy for the domestic competitions – FA Cup and League Cup – because he definitely deserves a regular hit.
Of course, Alisson will continue ahead of the Reds academy product, but he should surely be ahead of Adrian in the goalkeeping pecking order.
