Ian Wright was baffled that Harry Kane ‘showed a lot of desire’ to defend for Tottenham in the North London derby, but not attack, as he told Premier League Productions (26/09/21 at 6:30 pm).
The Arsenal legend pointed out how Kane worked his socks off to try and stop Buakayo Saka from scoring in the 34th minute, but that same application wasn’t shown when he was going forward.
Kane actually lost the ball in the build-up to that goal, chased back, ended up in his own penalty area where he was scrambling on the floor, as Saka’s driving run eventually ended him going through on goal and putting the game to bed.
Six Premier League games in and the 2020/21 Golden Boot winner and top assist-maker has a big fat zero to his name for this current campaign.
What doesn’t help Kane’s cause is that Spurs are taking more blows than Anthony Joshua did at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night.
Added with that, it was the England captain who came out in the summer and informed his supporters that he is staying at the club amid that Manchester City speculation.
Whatever the issue with Kane, he needs to sort himself out and Wright shared what the issue with his game was last season.
“You look at Harry Kane, he has lost the ball (in Arsenal’s half),” said Wright.
“He showed a lot of desire (to defend what turned out to be Arsenal’s third goal), which I have not actually seen in the other box.
“Once they are in this situation (Arsenal on the counter for Saka goal), look at him getting back.
“Harry Kane needs to start showing that desire, the other way. He gets the luck Saka and he finishes it very well.”

Kane needs some confidence from somewhere, a lucky goal, or something like that in order to get his engine going.
It does seem as though if he can get the ball hitting the back of the net again then Nuno can see those points racking up.
It is a problem that Tottenham still rely heavily on their star striker, but it has been the case for some while now.
